The patented Asscher cut diamond originated with Joseph Asscher of Holland in the early 1900's. Great-grandchildren Edward and Joop Asscher enhanced the cut, developing the Royal Asscher cut in the late 1990's. The company thrives today and distributes originals through select retail outlets worldwide. Expect to pay $700-$13,000 for an original Royal Asscher Diamond ring. The cut's reputation is such that today, the term "" is often used as a generic term for other high quality square, emerald-cut diamonds. Originals are cut to very strict specifications and are perfectly symmetrical. The diamonds are also discreetly laser-etched with a logo and ID number and come with certificate of authenticity.
