Irish Engagement Rings

Save on Celtic & St. Patrick's Day jewelry

The traditional Irish ring is called a Claddagh ring (and can be used as an  engagement or commitment ring). It features two hands, a heart and a crown. The design is named for the fishing village where Richard Joyce -- the craftsman who created the design -- originated. The ring could be worn on the traditional left hand ring finger, facing outward when worn as an engagement ring and inward after the ceremony. When used as a commitment ring, the woman could wear the Claddagh as a right hand ring, then move it to her left hand when wed. Today, Claddagh engagement rings are often worn as a symbol of the bride's heritage. Other Irish engagement and wedding ring designs include Trinity or other Celtic knots.
