Design Your Own Wedding Rings

Brides to be:
Email this page to your groom.

If you thought you could relax now that the engagement ring has been purchased and presented, think again. That was the preliminary; the main event is your wedding. You want it to be special, different from everyone else’s wedding. One way to achieve that is by having custom weddings rings made. Now that you have studied your bride’s style and taste and found they are different from yours, you should know that custom wedding rings do not have to be identical. Think of it this way. You are becoming a couple, but you are also unique individuals. Your rings can reflect that uniqueness.

What will it cost?

Custom wedding rings, like ready-made rings, come in a range of prices. Like every other aspect of your wedding, you and your fiancé will want to compare them to keep within your budget. Figure in the cost of insuring the ring if you order it online and are planning to have it sent to you by mail or overnight delivery. Since your rings are custom-made, request a picture or a detailed record, and have the company keep one, as well. That’s important if you need to make an insurance claim, but also for duplicating the design if for some reason you ever have to replace one of the original rings.

Where do you begin?

The sources to design your own wedding rings are the same as for custom engagement rings (in fact, you can design the wedding rings at the same time as the engagement ring). One is a retail jewelry store; another is the vast resource of the Internet. Like designing the engagement ring, you can start with anything from a basic idea to a detailed drawing. You can look at existing rings and choose certain elements. You can browse through catalogues of settings and stones. As the design begins to take shape, you contribute your ideas and have the last word on the finished product. The store or online service may offer several perks, including free cleaning. Take advantage of them.

Online sites to help you design your own wedding rings

The exact design process varies by store. Some, such as Mondera, allow limited customization. You choose a stone and setting from inventory, they assemble the ring and ship. This approach sounds limiting, but the jewelers carry such an extensive collection you are very likely to find the perfect combination of setting and stones.

Other online jewelers work with you directly to design a wedding ring. After you have described the design (your ring's shape, finish, width, pattern, and other detailing), they develop a preliminary model or sketch for you to examine. The design is finalized based on your feedback and approval. At that point, you will have designed your own wedding ring and you will have seen your vision turn into something real and enduring!
