If you want a wedding planning website, you have three options: 

1.      Hire a professional website designer.

2.      Sign on with a wedding website service.

3.      Create a personal website to use as your wedding planning website.

Advantages of Creating a Personal Website for Your Wedding

The main advantage to this approach is that the websites are often free or very low cost. You can get started quickly and inexpensively at Blogger or Geocities, for example. The disadvantages (detailed further down on this page) have to do with available features and professionalism (although at least one blog service -- WeddingWeblog.com, about $5.00 per month at the time of this writing -- has customized a blogging service to include several traditional wedding Website features).

If you already have a website or know how to develop one on your own, it is possible to customize it without the disadvantages of those no/low-cost services. If not, the disadvantages often tend to outweigh the advantages.

Disadvantages of Creating a Personal Website for Your Wedding

Let’s begin by saying that general blogging and free website services are not designed to provide what you need in a wedding planning website. If this is the route you choose, however, be aware that using a service for something it wasn't originally intended can create several roadblocks to creating your perfect wedding planning website.

• No-cost personal website services often require that you let them place advertisements on the website.

• You will probably have to settle for a "generic" typestyle and template.

• Many features of the wedding planning service websites will not be available to you.

• The resulting site might appear amateurish.

• With blogging services, you are generally limited to "posting-style” content, which means that whatever you add to the site is listed in the order it is added (with the most recent entry at top). This is not compatible with the way wedding planning websites generally work.
