One way many people overlook when thinking of ways to save on their wedding is through tax deductions. Here are the rules along with corresponding IRS resources. I’ve followed these with some ideas for getting the deductions. (Disclaimer: I’ve taken the H&R Block tax preparer’s course, but I am not a tax professional. So, please double check your deductions through a tax software or professional.) The Tax Deduction Rules If you use Schedule A to itemize deductions on a Federal 1040 tax return you can reduce your taxes. IRS Publication 526, found here, lays out the rules for what can […]
I am excited to announce a new video series on MyOnlineWeddingHelp.com–cake decorating tutorials showing, in detail, step-by-step instructions on how to ice and decorate the rustic wedding cake in the photo. The best part is it’s easier than you may think. You can do this without decorating bags or tips and you do *not* need experience. What’s in the new section? At the beginning and end of each video, you will find what I call a menu, where there will be links to each of six videos and this page. The cue that you are in a menu section will […]
Do you adore the concept behind hearts—love—but you find the look of a traditional heart not quite your style? Then a rope love knot heart may be just your taste. One way for getting “more bang for your buck” when planning your wedding is to be conscientious of how the cake or dessert will be served. There are two angles to consider: portion sizes and presentation. Portion Sizes If you’ve ever been at a buffet that serves full-size slices of cake and pie, chances are you left some on your plate. Just like you were at the buffet, many of your guests will be too full to eat a full piece, and some will not eat cake at all. Consequently, if you plan on everyone eating a regular-size piece of […]
Your roots are all country and you want to show it off? Consider a western wedding cake and western-themed reception. Western cake toppers are the obvious choice for the cake, but there are other creative choices, too. To get the ideas flowing, take a look at pictures in Google Images and the western accessories here. Encircle the wedding cake with a rhinestone-encrusted belt, embellish with boot- or star-shaped magnets / tins, or embed country western seals in the icing for decoration The possibilities are limited only by your imagination.
Unique wedding cake designs are a continuing trend. We’ve seen cakes drenched in chocolate, covered in fresh flowers, and monogrammed with the couple’s initials. Some are more elaborate, with lighted fountains, multi-shaped tiers, or trimmed in lace or jewels. The single most enduring trend leading into 2008, based upon online searches, is the square wedding cake. Some choose to adorn the cakes with traditional icing. Others have their square cakes arranged and iced like stacked gifts with bows and “wrapping paper” designs (the picture at left is an example), drenched in chocolate ganache, adorned with a flower cascade, or otherwise […]
